Position: Active, Engaged Family Assistant for 2 Boys in Palo Alto
Schedule: Monday-Wednesday 12-6pm, Thursday 12-8pm, Friday 2-6pm (30 hours/week guaranteed)
Salary Amount or Range: $45-$50/hour D.O.E. + Standard benefits (paid vacation, sick days, holidays)
Children: 5 and 9 years old
Pets: no pets (family is considering getting a dog)

Description

A family in Palo Alto is seeking an empathetic and engaging Family Assistant to help with childcare and household tasks. Their boys are 5 (going into Kindergarten) and 9 (going into 4th grade) years old and are outgoing, affectionate, active kids. Their eldest has ADHD which is well managed. He is gifted but also highly sensitive and needs someone patient and caring who is emotionally supportive.

Duties include childcare, homework help, driving children to activities, simple cooking for the family, light housekeeping, family laundry, and grocery shopping/errands. An added benefit is educational support, mainly 4th grade math and kinder-level reading.

A career nanny/family assistant with longevity in prior positions who is energetic and can easily keep up with a family on the go will be the best fit. Their ideal candidate is proactive and comfortable taking initiative. Someone who genuinely LOVES their kids, is engaging, playful, and feels like part of the family.

Experience Requirements

• 2 years minimum experience working as a Family Assistant with excellent verifiable references

Educational Requirements

• Fluency in English
• Fluency in German (nice to have)

Qualifications

• COVID-vaccinated + boosted
• TB and Tdap
• CPR Certified
• Valid, safe driver with clean record and reliable vehicle (family will provide car seats, pay for half of employee’s car insurance, and reimburse for mileage)
• Comfortable working with a child with ADHD
• Empathetic, kind, engaging, patient, friendly
• Experienced
• Friendly but can confidently hold boundaries and set expectations
• Feels like part of the family and parenting team
• Takes initiative

Responsibilities

• Childcare
• Homework help
• Educational support with math and reading (nice to have)
• Planning play dates and activities
• Actively engaging in play; going for a bike ride, playing basketball in the backyard, etc.
• Driving children to activities (all activities very close to home 1-8 blocks away)
• Meal preparation and simple cooking for the family
• Light housekeeping (kids’ bedrooms, play areas, common areas, unloading/loading dishwasher, etc.)
• Grocery shopping and other errands
