Description

A formal, multi-staffed private estate in Atherton is seeking a Full-Time Houseman to

support the daily operations, presentation, and upkeep of the property, with a primary focus on exterior spaces and hands-on maintenance. This role is ideal for a practical,

self-motivated professional who is comfortable working outdoors, takes pride in keeping a property immaculate, and is adept at addressing day-to-day operational and maintenance needs.

The Houseman will work as part of a structured household team and collaborate closely with estate staff and outside vendors to ensure the property is consistently maintained to the highest standards. The ideal candidate is reliable, detail-oriented, discreet, and accustomed to anticipating needs and following through.

Responsibilities

• Maintain the overall condition, functionality, and presentation of the estate, with a primary emphasis on exterior areas including entryways, walkways, patios, garages, and outdoor living spaces

• Perform hands-on property care including minor adjustments, basic repairs, equipment checks, and preventative upkeep to ensure the residence operates smoothly

• Oversee the day-to-day operation of core household systems and major appliances, monitoring performance and addressing issues as they arise

• Conduct regular inspections of interior and exterior areas to assess condition, safety, and maintenance needs, responding appropriately and proactively

• Serve as a primary on-site point of accountability for addressing and coordinating day-to-day operational and maintenance needs

• Coordinate with and oversee outside service providers (landscaping, maintenance, window washing, specialty contractors, deliveries), ensuring work meets estate standards and schedules

• Exercise sound judgment in determining when to address issues directly versus engaging qualified vendors or specialists

• Assist with setup, breakdown, and physical support for household activities, projects, and occasional events

• Support the upkeep of interior common areas as needed, ensuring spaces remain orderly, functional, and guest-ready

• Work collaboratively with household staff to support daily operations and adapt to changing priorities

Qualifications

• Prior experience working in a private estate, formal household, hotel, or construction property environment preferred

• Strong attention to detail with a pride-of-work mindset

• Comfortable working outdoors and supporting the exterior presentation of the property

• Ability to communicate effectively with vendors and internal staff

• Team-oriented, reliable, and adaptable

• Physically able to perform the duties of the role, including standing, lifting, and walking throughout the property

• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record preferred
