Description

We are representing a warm and welcoming household of four in finding their first dedicated Private Chef or Cook to join their team. The family has previously had helpers assist with light food preparation and occasional cooking, but this is the first time they are creating a role fully focused on cooking.

In this role, you will design and prepare daily meals with a focus on California-style home cooking. They enjoy clean, comforting, tasty food that highlights fresh seasonal ingredients, they especially love soups and balanced dishes that provide protein, vegetables, and healthy carbs. While they welcome influences from many cuisines, they do not expect fancy plating, what matters most is flavor, balance, and care for organic, farm-to-table ingredients. You will work alongside their other household staff, including a family assistant, houseman, and housekeepers, so a team-oriented mindset is essential.

Responsibilities

As their chef, you will play a central role in ensuring the family eats well each day. You will be responsible for designing meals that suit their daily schedules and reflect their preferences, while maintaining cleanliness and care in their main family kitchen and fully equipped prep kitchen. Attention to timing and awareness of the household’s flow will be important, as their home is also a place where school and work business take place.

  • Create meal plans using seasonal, fresh ingredients, with an emphasis on soups and balanced dishes.

  • Maintain kitchen cleanliness, organization, and respect for equipment and fixtures at all times.

  • Breakfast – plated 8:30am-9am, children eat simple breakfast first (eggs, avocado, toast)
  • Adult Lunch – typically plated, 11am-12pm although they may ask for it ready for them to consume at their leisure, warmed on the stove or ready in refrigerator
  • Kids Lunch – typically plated, although they may ask for it to-go in lunch boxes (sandwiches, salads)
  • Adults Dinner – ready to consume on their own, just warming (if anything) required
  • Kids Dinner – typically to-go in lunch boxes, for consuming on the run to/from sports and activities

Skills

This is a new role for our household, they are excited to welcome someone with professional experience who can bring knowledge and creativity into their kitchen. They are looking for a chef who is flexible, thoughtful, and focused on high-quality home cooking rather than fine dining presentations.

  • Experience working in a private home and understanding the unique dynamics of a family household.

  • Commitment to farm-to-table cooking with knowledge of sourcing and using seasonal, organic ingredients.

Experience Requirements

2 or more years of experience working in a private home with verifiable references

Educational Requirements

Fluency in English
