Description
A family in Atherton is seeking a seasoned, energetic Family Assistant to help with childcare and household tasks. Their children are 5 (girl), 8 (boy) and 10 (girl) years old. Responsibilities include childcare, driving, homework help, cooking, laundry, organization and light housekeeping. Their ideal person is friendly and energetic; a good listener and communicator; and a proactive go-getter in being mom’s “right hand” on all family needs. One of their children has ADHD so prior experience there is a plus.
The family can guarantee 36-40 hours per week, depending on the candidate’s preference.
Schedule option 1:
- Mondays 2 p.m. to 7 p.m.
- Tuesdays 6:45-10 a.m. + 2-7 p.m. (split shift)
- Wednesdays 6:45-10 a.m. + 2-7 p.m. (split shift)
- Thursdays 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.
- Fridays 2 p.m. to 7 p.m.
- Plus flexibility for date nights and a few additional mornings when mom is traveling
Schedule option 2:
- Monday-Friday 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. with two longer days (starting at 12 p.m.)
Sample daily schedule:
6:45-7:15: Unload dishwasher and prep kids’ breakfast, school snacks, and lunches
7:15-8: Help kids get up and dressed, give son medicine, get kids to eat breakfast, help kids brush teeth and put on sunscreen
8-9:45: Help get kids out the door or help with drop off, tidy kitchen, walk dog, sometimes put away laundry
10-2ish: Break
2-3pm: Prepare dinner, light kitchen tidy-up
3-7pm: After-school care; school pick-ups, drive to sports & activities, supervise play, homework oversight, sometimes give kids dinner
Experience Requirements
- 2 years minimum experience working as a private Family Assistant with excellent verifiable references
Educational Requirements
- Fluency in English
Qualifications
- CPR Certified
- Valid driver with clean record (family can provide household car); comfortable driving in the Peninsula
- Prior experience with ADHD is a plus
- Confident
- Energetic, patient, genuinely loves working with children
- Ability to prepare simple, nutritious meals
- Ability and desire to help with homework and task management for the kids
- Experience with active elementary-age kids
- Interest in outdoor play, sports, and creative activities
- Reliable, upbeat caregiver who can keep pace with three adventurous kids and partner smoothly with parents
- Communication: Clear, proactive daily communication with parents (text/phone/app updates)
Responsibilities
- Nanny and Driving Duties:
- Divvy up driving the kids to their afterschool activities
- Talk with and do activities with during the afternoons
- Keeping kids on schedule
- Helping with homework if needed
- Playing with them during downtime
- Cooking:
- Enjoys cooking and can make kids breakfast
- Pack lunches
- Cook simple healthy family dinners
- Food prep and put away groceries and dishes
- Kitchen cleanup/shutdown:
- Weekly cleaners do the deep cleaning but the kitchen is the heart of all the activity of the family so doing dishes, emptying the dishwasher and keeping the kitchen clean is a part of the role
- House Management/Organization:
- Organize pantry
- Put away groceries
- Check mail
- Take out trash
- Put away laundry
- Help maintain order/cleanliness
- One-off projects (pack for vacation, take car to get cleaned, etc.)
- Dog:
- In the mornings would like to have take dog for a walk around the neighborhood
- Make sure dog has food and water
