Position: Proactive & Savvy Family Assistant Needed in San Mateo [FILLED]
Schedule: Monday to Friday 10 a.m./12 p.m. to 6 p.m. (30-40 hours guaranteed) – flexibility needed to occasionally stay later depending on children’s activities/schedules
Salary Amount or Range: $45-$55/hour D.O.E. + Standard benefits (paid vacation, sick days, holidays)
Children: two girls ages 9 and 10 years old
Pets: A chill and loveable 3-year-old Retriever

A busy family in San Mateo is seeking a proactive, savvy, easygoing Family Assistant to help with household tasks and childcare for their two girls (ages 9 and 10 years old). Their girls need light supervision in the afternoons and love dance, art, and swimming in the family pool. Responsibilities include driving the children from school to activities, running errands, meal prep and cooking for the family, light tidying and household organization, and family laundry. For candidates who are more tech savvy they would love additional help with researching and booking vendors and/or travel as well as calendar management.
Their ideal person is a confident self-starter, open minded, and a great communicator. The best person for them is someone who genuinely enjoys helping the household run smoothly, who takes pride in seeing what needs to be done around the home and tackling those tasks. Also must love dogs! This is a great role for someone looking for a long term fit as they hope to have this person for at least a few years.
Experience Requirements
- 2 years minimum experience working as a Family Assistant with excellent verifiable references
Educational Requirements
- Fluency in English
Qualifications
- CPR Certified
- Valid driver with clean record (family can provide household car for work-related driving)
- Must be a great communicator; provide suggestions, open to giving/receiving feedback
- Self-assured
- Easygoing
- Open-minded
- Highly organized and can handle a lot of moving parts
- Comfortable holding boundaries with kids
- Comfortable with sweet 3 year old cream retriever
- Tech savvy; knows Google suite
- Scrappy / self starter / takes initiative in tackling tasks that need attention
- Comfortable swimming / supervising kids in the pool
- Can make a long term commitment, ideally a few years
Responsibilities
- Afterschool care (light supervision as the girls are older)
- Running errands (post office, grocery shopping, dry cleaning)
- Stocking fridge/pantry
- Prepping family meals
- Cooking for the family (if working FT 40 hours)
- Light tidying (family laundry, loading/unloading, picking up after the kids)
- Preparing snacks for the kids
- Organizing the household (kitchen drawers, pantry, fridge, etc.)
- Driving the children to/from activities; tag team with parent to get the kids where they need to go
- Pet care: walking the dog, meeting the groomers, feeding + ideally pet sitting when family is traveling
- Schedule household vendors
- Stock household supplies and supplements for all family members
- Coordinate and meet vendors for house repairs (ie: AV, plumber, gutter, painter, electrician, pool, etc.)
- Create calendar for ongoing home maintenance (pool, gutters, HVAC, window cleaning, etc.)
- House/pet sitting when family is traveling (bring in mail and packages, laundry, stock fridge for family’s return, prepping a meal + stay at the house and watch the dog ideally but not required)
- Ideally if person is tech savvy:
- Researching, scheduling and meeting vendors
- Booking and organizing travel
- Calendar management via Google Suite
