Description

We are representing a warm, respectful family in San Francisco who are seeking a skilled and reliable professional to care for our home and assist with a limited, scheduled childcare. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proactive, and takes genuine pride in supporting the day-to-day flow of family life. They are looking for someone who understands the rhythms of a household, can anticipate needs, and works independently without requiring micromanagement or daily direction.

This is a part-time position and are mindful to keep responsibilities realistic and manageable within that scope. Tasks will be thoughtfully distributed over time, with flexibility week to week depending on childcare needs, family travel, or seasonal events. Our home is approximately 2,400 square feet.

Scope and Expectations in the Context of Part Time Employment

  • Deep cleaning and organizing tasks may be rotated over time (e.g., closet rotation seasonally, bathrooms deep cleaned weekly with light cleaning daily or as needed)
  • Childcare is occasional and scheduled—Fridays and 0–2 evenings per week. On Fridays, housekeeping duties are paused for childcare; if childcare is not needed on Fridays, those hours are guaranteed for housekeeping
  • Some responsibilities may shift depending on the week (e.g., errands, wardrobe tasks, event prep)
  • We do not require full meal preparation or substantial project/vendor management. We may ask for occasional light meal prep / kitchen assistance and basic repair / small project vendor management.

Primary Responsibilities Housekeeping and Home Care

  • Routine cleaning of all rooms on a rotating schedule
  • Dusting, vacuuming, sweeping, and mopping floors
  • Cleaning and disinfecting bathrooms and kitchen surfaces
  • Polishing wood, glass, and metal finishes
  • Interior window cleaning (exterior when safely accessible)
  • Cleaning and organizing the refrigerator and kitchen drawers
  • Use of non-toxic cleaning products and methods

Laundry and Wardrobe Care

  • Primary focus on husband’s clothing and household laundry
  • Occasional support with employer’s laundry, wardrobe rotation, and light closet organizing
  • Nanny manages most toddler laundry, but stain treatment support is appreciated
  • Occasional shoe care
  • Coordination of dry cleaning
  • Steaming and hand-washing garments when needed

Kitchen Support

  • Maintaining a clean, organized kitchen environment
  • Unloading and organizing groceries
  • Occasional light meal prep or kitchen assistance
  • Table setting and dishwashing as needed

Errands and Household Organization

  • Restocking household supplies
  • Running occasional errands (returns, pharmacy trips, etc.)
  • Answering the door, receiving deliveries, and organizing packages
  • Keeping drawers, closets, and storage areas tidy and well-maintained
  • Notify employer of maintenance needs

Childcare (Scheduled)

  • Caring for our 21-month-old daughter on Fridays and 0-2 evenings per week
  • Reading, playing, preparing toddler meals/snacks, and creating a calm, engaging environment
  • Toy tidying is handled primarily by the nanny, but occasional help is welcome
  • Childcare hours replace housekeeping time on Fridays

Seasonal and Event Support

  • Tidying porches, patios, and outdoor furniture
  • Supporting seasonal transitions and light décor
  • Assisting with party and event preparation and cleanup, with the understanding that regular tasks may be delayed during these times

Professional Conduct

  • Mindful of household privacy and routines
  • Approaches responsibilities with care and consistency, helping to create a calm, well-supported home environment
  • Clear and proactive communication
  • Self-directed, reliable, and punctual
  • Pride in quality of work and overall home atmosphere.
  • Able to gently and respectfully communicate household standards to vendors, repair people, and caregivers as needed (e.g. reinforcing shoe covers, appliance use, or laundry practices)

Qualifications

  • At least 3 years of professional housekeeping experience in a private home or similar setting
  • Experience caring for toddlers or young children
  • Strong references from previous families or employers
  • Familiarity with non-toxic cleaning methods
  • Excellent attention to detail in laundry, home care, and organization
  • Fluent in English
  • Motivated by the meaningful work of supporting a household and family
  • Comfortable working independently, ability to develop and implement a housekeeping schedule, able to identify needs and adjust accordingly without micromanagement

Compensation and Benefits

  • Hourly wage commensurate with experience
  • Guaranteed minimum number of weekly hours
  • Paid holidays (if scheduled to work on those days; e.g., Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s Day)
  • Paid vacation, prorated based on schedule (available after probationary period)
  • Paid sick leave in accordance with California labor requirements
  • Performance-based bonus (e.g., annual or year-end)
